Managing and Living With Diabetes

Date:

Being diabetic is life-changing. One minute you’re out eating everything you love and the next you’re counting your carbohydrates and keeping track of the sugar content in drinks. There are two different types of diabetics. Type one diabetics are typically diagnosed in childhood and depend on insulin injections to manage their diabetes. Type two diabetics are diagnosed and rely on prescription drugs like metformin to manage their diabetic care.

Diagnosis

Diabetes can only be managed by a physician. If you don’t have a family physician and you believe you’re exhibiting signs and symptoms of diabetes, you should look into getting an appointment as soon as possible. If health insurance is holding you back, you should look into getting short-term health insurance benefits.

Take some time to look through insurance policies because buying health insurance should be done keeping your diabetic needs in mind. This is because, on top of the coverage necessary for your medication, you’ll need to see your physician every couple of months to have tests done. These blood tests ensure that the medications administered are managing your diabetes.

If diabetes is in your genetics, your family doctor will order a fasting glucose test that will test the level of your Hemoglobin A1C. This test tells your doctor your sugar levels over a long period of time. If you have a glucose tester at home and you check your sugar levels an hour or two after eating, these are your short-term results.

In cases of borderline diabetes, the level of your sugar measured by these glucometers will appear to be normal in comparison to your A1C results.

Living With Diabetes

Medications can cause unwanted reactions, especially diabetes medications. Stomach cramps and blurred vision can occur as well so it is important that you’re managing your diabetes with the close supervision of your physician. Once your doctor has decided that you’ve got control over your glucose levels, you can breathe a little.

Lifestyle changes are important to keep your diabetes under wraps. Most people believe that it is high fructose corn syrup alone that you should be paying attention to, but you should also be counting your carbohydrates because too many carbs can raise your blood sugar.

Most physicians refer first-time diabetics to a dietitian so that they can learn how to control their sugar levels with your diet instead of upping their prescriptions. Chanca piedra can be used to control blood sugar levels, along with other supplements like cinnamon. Exercise can lower your blood sugar dramatically. Alongside insulin and prescriptions, just walking around the block after a large meal full of carbs can reduce your blood sugar levels down to a manageable level. Exercise and dieting can deplete vitamins and minerals in your body.

Adding supplements like glucotype 2 to your everyday routine can help you bring your body back on to the right track and minimize the effect of diabetes on your body.

Diabetes can lead to other chronic illnesses when left untreated like high blood pressure and cholesterol problems. These illnesses require medications and before you know it you’ll be taking three different medications or more on a daily basis.

If you have lesions on your feet that don’t seem to be healing, this can be due to diabetes as well. Diabetics are prone to foot diseases and some patients have to get their feet amputated as a result. Supplements, diet, and regular exercise can dramatically change the way you feel physically and this is especially true when you have diabetes.

The amount of medication you take can also be reduced when you’ve implemented lifestyle changes. Manage your diabetes by making healthy choices and you’ll be surprised how you’ll feel as a result.
