Many people are happy to stay exactly where they are in their home country, but there are others like yourself who want to broaden their horizons and many move away for different reasons. If you are from the United Kingdom for example then you might want to move away because as you get older, it becomes more difficult to handle the cold weather and the high cost of living. This is why many people consider moving to a fantastic country like Thailand and although this can be a pretty big change in your life, for the vast majority of times it is for the better.
There are a number of things however that you need to put into place to keep yourself safe when you are abroad and to protect your health as well. Health and safety are incredibly important and it needs to be at the top of your list of priorities. One of the first things that you need to do is to make sure that you have insurance in place and that includes pre existing health insurance. This should cover you for any issues that you are currently experiencing and other issues that you might experience later on in your life.
The following are just some other top ways to help keep you safe when moving abroad to a country like Thailand this year, and every year.
- Be sure to get your shots – It makes more sense to get your vaccinations before you leave your home country because as was pointed out previously before, if you live in the United Kingdom then your vaccinations should be free. Be sure to get your shots at the required timelines a few months before you leave. You will be given vaccination documents and so make sure that you have those or you get electronic versions of them instead.
- Get yourself the right insurance – As was touched on briefly before in the introduction, you don’t know how long that you’re going to be away for and maybe you will love Thailand and you want to stay longer. In that case, you need to make sure that you get international health insurance to cover your medical bases.
- Get a medical check-up – It doesn’t matter if you feel perfectly healthy and you know that you’re not going to get sick because you don’t know these things and so make an appointment with your doctor to get a full health check before you leave. If you have family members then this will give them peace of mind knowing that you’re going to be fine on your travels.
It cannot be emphasized enough that you need to do your proper research and due diligence when it comes to getting health care when you are abroad. Think about where you want to settle and find out where the best hospitals are in that particular area. It might even make sense to go register yourself there especially if you have pre-existing medical conditions.
