Landscape drainage ensures the exteriors of your house do not look like a swamp. Some people get a very muddy mess after the rains as their property does not have a good drainage system. In some homes where there is a drainage system in place, due to the saturation of the clay soil water can be seen standing.  This standing water problem can be caused by surface or subsurface water.

The surface water is what you see in the yard or the walkways while the subsurface water is what collects under the soil. The grading, problems with the soil, and obstructions can cause surface water issues. It can cause insects like flies, mosquitoes, and other pests to grow fast. With subsurface water, there is a danger to your foundation and the driveways and walkways can also get damaged. These drainage issues have to be solved soon to prevent damage to property.

For surface water, the surface drainage systems work well. The drainage contractor will re-grade the land and allow the water to flow using a slope or a shallow channel. Landscape professionals can charge between $1,019 and $1,570 to grade the yard for you. When you hire experienced drainage professionals they will charge you a lot less as it will be part of their job.

Water from a surface drain can be routed through a sub-surface drainage system to exit the property. Drainage channels such as artificial swales are specially designed to manage water runoff and increase rainwater penetration. You can add a dry creek bed to the garden as a decorative feature which will also be fully functional. For paved areas, there are also pavers that are water permeable. Water will be absorbed by these pavers and it will be collected in a catch system to be used later or can be drained out of the premises.

French drains are a subsurface solution that collects water in a low area. It is often used against the wall or the foundation to keep the building safe from standing water. In a French drain, trenches filled with gravel are used. A pipe with holes in it is then placed on top of the gravel. A fabric is used around the pipe to filter the water. Water that drains out can be collected or diverted out using another drainage structure.

Catch basins are also a good way of handling standing water problems. These are connected to a collector pipe and accumulate water that drains into another system. When water collects near paved areas the trench drains are used. These are a common sight near the pools, patios, and garages. Sub-surface piping is used with trench drains to drain water off your site.

When you need a drainage solution, look online for an experienced company. They will come out to the property and take a look at the situation and then give you a quote. When you deal with a well-established company you can be sure of honesty. These companies will never overcharge you for materials or labor. The job will be done on time and within your budget.
