Cross Browser Testing: What, why and the one we need to do so

Date:

If you are a web designer or programmer, you surely want your web page to be displayed in the best way in all browsers and devices. To ensure this, it is essential that the implemented content works under the so-called Cross Browser, especially cascading style sheets such as CSS or script codes such as JavaScript. In other words: all elements must be programmed to always look the same, regardless of the browser used by the visitor.

What is Cross Browser Testing for?

When the administrator of a web page refrains from testing compatibility with different browsers, it is very likely that your website is not optimized for all browsers, which can lead to unsightly display errors. Compatibility problems arise mainly due to the fact that browsers interpret standardized code in different ways. If as a web designer you focus too much on a single browser, you will lose sight of features that will surely be important to others. Here it is important to put personal preferences in the background, since the ones that really count are those of the visitors. Remember that the efforts invested in the design of a web page are not worth it if the content is not displayed correctly in the browsers used by users.

The optimization of a web page for different browsers also plays an important role in responsive web design. Here it is also necessary to consider the most popular browsers on mobile operating systems such as Android. Cross Browser optimization can be a tedious task since the correct functioning of the elements can often only be checked manually with a preview in the different browsers. In practice, the most common problems are usually:

– The difficult one (through a virtual machine) or, in many cases impossible, installation of Internet Explorer on the computer;
– Invalid Safari verification for Windows or Linux users;
– The large number of obsolete mobile browsers, which usually have the same technical basis, but differ in many details.

As a consequence, and because it is not obvious that a web administrator has installed the different versions of the main browsers, there are numerous tools, also known as Cross Browser Testing Tools, that offer navigation packs. These include the necessary hardware resources to perform functional tests for a certain time.

Comparium as the best cross-browser tool

There are many tools that can do cross-browser testing but the best is Comparium. This is a cross-browser tester that is able to test on various platforms / operating systems and browsers. It also provides support for Selenium as a free automated testing suite for various web apps. There is not the slightest doubt about that. You can test your site’s performance on Google Chrome 75.0, Mozilla Firefox 68.0, Safari 11.0, and others. You can also test on platforms such as Windows 10.7, Mac OS X Mojave, Linux, etc. If you think cross-browser testing wastes a lot of your time then don’t worry because you don’t need to do that manually. You simply type in your site address and test it. Only that! Testing can take place offline so you don’t have to wait in front of your screen until it’s done. So practical and easy!

With cross-browser testing, you can test your site’s performance and find out which parts need to be improved. And to do that, you can count on Comparium!
