What is considered a long distance move?

Date:

The basic definition of a long distance move is when a mover is covering a distance over 400 miles. In some cases, it is also known as the Cross country, or interstate move. It takes place when one is moving in-between states, but not all long distance move involve such transition.

While dealing with the topic of moves, there are mainly two types of moves – Local Move and Long Distance Move. But what is a long-distance move and how is it different from Local Move. The identity of a long distance movers deals with whether the movers are travelling merely less than a definite number of miles or rather far more than it.

Some of the other differentiating features are as follows:

  • Pricing

This is the biggest point of difference between both the moves. The cost of a long-distance move is much more than that of local moves. According to some statistics, the price of a local move can be very easily calculated based on the number of rooms and thus the items. An average is seen that where for one-bedroom, two manpower movers are needed for 2 to 4 bedrooms three or maybe four manpower movers are required and thus increases accordingly.

Now in case of long distance move, the three main factors on which pricing is dependent are: the amount and weight of stuff packed and lastly the distance that is to be travelled and only then can a definite and structured price can be said.

  • Destinations

Much depends upon the location as to where the journey will end. It plays quite an important role. In case of long distance move, it generally refers to moving across the country. The very fact is that through the mention of destination, one can make a distinct decision whether he or she is travelling within the country or across it.

For local movers, the destinations are basically within the country. But then yes, in a few cases, it is seen that though the distance covered is more than 400 miles, the transition happens within the country. For instance, if someone travels from North Texas to South Texas, the distance travelled should qualify it as a long distance move, yet it takes place within a single place.

  • Associated charges

In the cases of a local move, the only chargeable item is the Fuel. But this is not so as to what happens with long distance move. In the latter case, there is basically no definite fuel charge and will differ with the destination you have chosen.

Next, we have the line haul charges, which totally depends on the weight of your belongings. For this, they calculate the entire weight along with the track and then weighs the empty truck again. Finally, they go for subtraction and find the definite weight of your baggage. Now this kind of charges can never be found in a local move.

A study has thus shown that the average price of a local move accounts from $1500 to $2000 and for long distance move it comes around a range of $5000 to $9000. But then both are subjective and can change with situations as in like extra stoppage, speciality things, etc. or else the range remains almost the same.

  • Wrapping Up

These are the reasons why one is considered a long distance move and the other as a local move. There are many more minor differences, but these major points of difference stated above will help give anyone a basic idea about long distance move.
