The thoughtful layout of our household items and furniture can increase the use of space in our homes. I enjoy hosting gatherings and grilling great food, but my home is set for our family. Rather than building a wall of furniture around the perimeter, leaving the largest space in the middle, the few rooms we have are divided into functional areas.
Does your family gather for nightly shows on the same screen? If it’s anything like mine, you disperse into your interests. Why not make your home support a variety of comfortable zones in shared spaces? One family room can be separated with paneled screens for sound mitigation and visual comfort. There are endless materials and designs to choose from. They can be stored when not in use, for cleaning, or when people do stop by.
I cannot put a finger on how a sectional 3-pieces or more reinvents a room. Can you? Ease of position and coziness change could be one reason. You can sit up for a game, recline for a movie, or sprawl out in an afternoon nap, all within reachable distance. Smart technology is being fused into every sector, and your coffee table can charge everything while illuminating the floor with LED as you get up for a snack. Is a sectional couch potato called home fries or wedges? Asking for a friend.
Our furniture often sits empty. Suppose there is not a chair for each person. It would be a sign of disrespect to make someone sit on the floor alone. So, we all sit on the floor. It brings us closer, for sure. A good rug muffles noise creates a warm feel, and adds style to any room. My brother imported a rug from Turkey, and it could function as armor. It is incredibly dense and heavy.
Do you prefer an armchair, recliner, or the whole loveseat to yourself? Every room has a purpose. Our homes should include tranquil characteristics. The world around us can be accessed in moments when you have plans. Make plans to have no plans and follow through with 30-45 minutes of unplugged balancing outdoors.
A funny difference between Dutch and Thai friends of mine is that one has small tables all over with nothing on them, and the other has every single square inch or flat surface occupied. I am in the middle but lean to minimalist. No matter how you decorate or furnish, create a place of relaxation.
