Dubia Roaches: The Best Pet Food for your Reptilian Friends

Date:

Dubia roaches are among the most palatable insects which you can feed your reptilian pets. Geckos, chameleons, bearded dragons, and tarantulas might seem scary to some. Still, they make great pets, especially for people who want to connect closely with the more exotic and eclectic breed of animals.

However, unlike other pets, it is not easy to find food for your geckos and tarantulas. You can easily walk into a departmental store and pick up packets of dog biscuits and kitten food. However, you will hardly find a pet shop where you can pick up live roaches and crickets!

Human food is not ideal for reptilian pets. They are far more primitive and need a special, natural diet like dubia roaches to thrive and complete their entire life circle.

Packed with Nutrients

Dubia roaches have high nutrient content. Leopard geckos, chameleons, bearded dragons, and tarantulas need high protein and calcium if they are to retain their scaly bodies, amazing colors, and a thick layer of hair. If reptiles do not get adequate nutrition, their scales start losing their inherent shine and glossy texture.

Leopard geckos will lose their brightness, chameleons will stop changing color, and the tarantulas will lose their hair. Bearded dragons will stop moving and retreat to the corner of their aquarium. They need their nutrition to maintain their vitality, just like a puppy or a kitten. You will hardly find feeder insects more nutritious than dubias.

Easier To Digest

These roaches are easier to digest and eat than crickets. Crickets can be jumpy, and your pet might have difficulty catching and eating them. They are also not very palatable when dead.

Dubia roaches are more comfortable to catch, and because they have a thinner exoskeleton, they are digested quickly. Moreover, your pet will find it far more exciting to hunt live roaches in their enclosures than hunting crickets, keeping their primitive instincts alive.

Available in All Sizes

It is important to find the right size of feeder insects for your pets. Larger geckos and leopard dragons will need large feeder insects in proportion and vice versa. It is not easy to find crickets and other insects in their ideal size. However, dubia roaches come in five distinct sizes.

The smallest ones are about 3/16” to ¼” in size. These are usually three to five days old. The larger ones are about 5/8” to 3/4” and are about 2.5 months to 3 months old. The larger roaches will also have more fat and protein. But if you have a smaller pet, you can feed them the smaller roaches in more numbers. The ideal size for the pets would be to find a roach that fits between their eyes.

Safe for a Wide Variety of Animals and Your Home

Dubia roaches can be fed to omnivorous and insectivorous reptiles. You can also feed them to amphibians and invertebrates. Unlike other insects, they do not bite, so there is no risk of your pet getting hurt while feeding them. They might try to climb out of the bowl, but a mesh cover over the aquarium or enclosure will take care of that.

Because they have a shallow risk of parasites and need high humidity to multiply, you can keep them at home without risk of any infestation. They live long, so you can be sure to have a good supply in store for your exotic pets. If you have multiple exotic reptilian pets, they will be suitable for all of them.

With high-quality dubiacockroaches, you will see your exotic pets thriving. They will look forward to their meal times, and their healthy pallor and shining eyes will express how happy they are with the diet.
