Date:

Bangkok is known as the ‘city that never sleeps’ and this huge sprawling metropolis has long since fascinated western visitors with a unique blend of old and new architecture and a colourful culture. Of course, we all know about the main tourist attractions in Kreung Thep (city of angels), but in this article, we present a few cool places that are not on the tourist trail.

  • Dinner cruise on the Chao Phraya River – There are many fine hotels on the banks of the river and each had its own cruise boat that departs daily at around 5pm. The trip takes about 2.5 hours in total and you pass Wat Arun and many other stunning structures, while you enjoy a delicious buffet and they also have a Thai dancing troupe. Search online to find hotel websites and you will find details of the dinner cruise. If you are staying in a Sukhumvit Soi 11 hotel Bangkok, you are centrally located for all the main Bangkok areas.
  • Chatuchak Weekend Market – The largest outdoor market in Thailand, Chatuchak is so big, you need a few days to see it all; a weekend market that is ideal for buying souvenirs, you can barter with the vendors and Thai prices are much cheaper than tourist prices. Plan to visit the market during your last weekend and you can buy all the souvenirs for your family and friends.
  • Khao San Road – This is the backpacker area of the city and if you visit in the evening, you can experience the music and bars that are on either side of the road. Ask any taxi driver and they can take you to this small street and there are quite a few vendors selling a range of items.
  • Samut Prakan – A suburb of Bangkok, Samut Prakan is home to the biggest crocodile farm in Thailand, where you can watch an amazing show! There are some stunning temples in this area that are well worth a visit if you like fine architecture. The ancient city is located here and it is a must-see for history buffs. • Ratchaburi – About 1.5 hours’ drive south of Bangkok is the town of Ratchaburi, which is home to the most famous floating market in Thailand, named Damnuen Sak. The town is also home to the only alpaca farm in the country.

Bangkok has much to offer foreign tourists and whether you are staying a few days or a few weeks, you will never be bored in this iconic city.
