5 Important Factors to Consider Before Getting Breast Implants

Date:

Breast augmentation, commonly performed cosmetic surgery today. That’s because women with small breasts lack self-confidence. Breast augmentation makes those women feel more confident in their appearance. However, if you want to get a breast implant, here are some important factors you should consider.

1. Implants or Fat Transfer:

Silicone or saline implants are not the only options to increase your breast size. Breast augmentation also can also be performed using autologous (patient-derived) fat grafts. In this procedure, liposuction is used to extract fat from other parts of the patient’s body. The extracted fat is processed into a condition fat and then injected into the breasts. Keep in mind that you can merely increase up to two cup sizes with this type of augmentation. However, you can also choose between silicone or saline incision. Silicone implants give you a more natural appearance while saline implants are also pockets made of silicone, but they are filled with saltwater, which is also called a saline solution. Saline implants involve a smaller incision, and even if they get leak inside, your body will be safe because the saline solution is similar to bodily fluids. It totally depends on your preference to choose the type of augmentation. Breast augmentation surgery makes those women feel more confident in their appearance.

2. Your Breast Implant Expectations:

Every woman’s body is unique which means the breast augmentation outcome can differ depending on how many natural breast tissues you have, your skin elasticity, your body shape and dimensions including your weight, height, and chest width, your health condition, and your surgical goals. It’s important to discuss in detail with your cosmetic surgeon what how will your breasts look like after the surgery. While you have an idea about the after-surgery results, you can balance this with what’s best for your health and body. Not every woman wants bigger breasts. If you wish to make your breasts appear younger, get a breast lift by Dr. Eddy Rona.

3. State of Your Health:

Breast augmentation surgery is usually a simple outpatient procedure. If you have better health, your surgical outcomes are likely to be better as well. Your breasts need to be fully developed before you have a breast implant. Therefore, the age requirement for silicone implants is 22 years or older and for saline implants is 18 years or older. However, breast implants are not safe for pregnant and breastfeeding women. Moreover, it’s also not recommended for women with pre-cancerous or cancerous symptoms. Discuss your overall health with your cosmetic surgeon and tell your doctor about any infections, illness or allergies you have, any medications you take, and any prior breast surgery you had.

4. Your Future Plans:

You must take into consideration your future plans before undergoing breast enlargement surgery. Breastfeeding, future pregnancies, and weight fluctuations can affect your surgical outcomes. If you have a plan to get pregnant in the future, keep in mind that it can cause changes in the size and shape of your breasts, which can lead to sagging, deflated, or stretched breasts. It’s essential to discuss with your doctor if you have to breastfeed in the future because certain implant placements and surgical incisions are better if you plan to breastfeed after the surgery. For instance, glandular tissue implant placement and the periareolar incision can impact your ability to lactate in the future. The women who would want to breastfeed in the future should have their incision at the axilla (armpit) or in the fold underneath the breasts.

5. Breast Implants are not Permanent:

Implants don’t have an expiration date, but they are still the foreign objects in your body that need to be regularly examined and replaced if necessary. Breast implants can usually last over 20 to 30 years. However, you may need additional surgery if you want further changes in shape and size or if you don’t like the result of the first augmentation surgery. Another surgery will also be needed if your implants rupture, leak, or shape change. Regularly visit your surgeon after the augmentation surgery to examine any changes and to extend the life of your implants.
