5 Beauty & Health Benefits of Pearls

Date:

Pearls are undoubtedly one of the world’s most unique gemstones. To begin, they are the only gemstones that are produced by a living creature. Next is the gemstone’s one-of-a-kind beauty that comes from the way light reflects off of the surface of a pearl to make it seem as if it’s glowing from within. People often refer to this as the luster of a pearl. Finally, it’s the many different beauty and health benefits that pearls can promote, an aspect which is often overlooked. While it may come as a surprise to some, people have actually used pearls for various health and beauty purposes for many centuries.

In this article, we explore this last aspect more closely and describe five different benefits of pearls related to health and beauty. We’ll give you all the information you need to know before pearls officially become the next big trend in health and beauty products.

How are Pearls Used for Health and Beauty?

Prior to listing the benefits of pearls, it’s important to briefly discuss another question many people have—how are pearls exactly used for health and beauty? As probably apparent, it isn’t the same pearls you’d find on a white pearl necklace that is used for health and beauty, but instead, pearl powder. Real pearls and mother-of-pearl pieces are first washed in boiling water before being milled into an extremely fine powder. From there, people have a few different options as far as purchasing and using it. One option is to buy pearl powder capsules, which some people opt for because of their ease and convenience. Another option is to buy a ready-to-use face mask that includes pearl powder. Lastly, you can buy raw pearl powder to create your own mask with it or mix it in water (or tea). This last option is our favorite, especially considering that there are many great pearl powder recipes on the internet. So, what are some of the benefits of pearl powder?

  • Enhances Skin Texture and Glow

Pearl powder has powerful properties that increase the production of collagen and fibroblasts, both of which play an important role in maintaining a beautiful, smooth skin tone. As a result, this can help slow down the effects that aging has on the skin. In addition, research also suggests that pearl powder can also aid with acne and sunspots.

  • Promotes Emotional Well-Being

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), which is often regarded as the foremost school in Eastern medicine, was among the first to use pearls for their health benefits, especially as an adaptogen. Today, research has proven the effect that pearls can have in reducing stress and creating emotional wellness. Magnesium, one of the trace minerals found in pearl powder that has been known to aid with anxiety and depression, might be the reason why.

  • Aids with Osteoporosis

Considering the high volume of calcium that is found in pearl powder, it’s easy to understand how it can aid with osteoporosis, and more generally, bone density. This is because of the nacre that’s found in pearl powder, which stimulates the regeneration of osteoblasts. Osteoblasts are crucial in new bone formation and the strengthening of bone tissue.

  • Rich in Trace Minerals

In addition to being rich in calcium, pearl powder is also loaded with many other trace minerals that are essential to overall health, including selenium, zinc, and iron. Selenium can boost your immune system, while zinc helps the function of your metabolism and iron helps ensure the production of healthy red blood cells.

  • Powerful Antioxidant

Superoxide Dismutase (SOD), along with glutathione, are two of the body’s most powerful antioxidant enzymes. What do they have to do with pearl powder? Well, pearl powder stimulates and boosts both of these antioxidants, in turn helping your body fight against various diseases and illnesses.

Pearls are already one of the world’s most popular gemstones, due largely to their exquisite beauty. However, as more and more people learn about the health and beauty benefits of pearls, it’s likely that these gemstones will become even more popular. As we’ve discussed here, pearl powder is a fantastic way to enhance your beauty and increase your overall health. With all that said, the next time you’re shopping for pearl jewelry, don’t forget to also pick up some pearl powder as well.
